gconf, how odd

Yesterday evening I had some problems with my gconf which seems to be quite important for gnome/metacity:

fonts had changed
symbols in menus were gone
alt&tab didn’t work
the taskbar didn’t work
key-repeat didn’t work, so I couldn’t hold a key to repeat its function
